You’re helping us in the fight against cancer, and we’re here to help you meet and exceed your fundraising goals. In addition to your registration fee, riders need to meet the minimum fundraising commitment in order to participate. If a rider’s minimum has not been met at check in, they can sign a fundraising commitment form to allow them to ride.

Share Your Story

Storytelling is a great way to engage your networks and encourage them to donate. Whether your ride is a personal challenge or you’ve been affected by cancer in some way, share your reasons for riding on your personal fundraising webpage and in your donation requests. Those you ask will be more inclined to give when they know this ride means something important to you. Use the blog feature in your fundraising dashboard to share updates along the way!

Email Still Rules

Email is still the most effective way to fundraise. More donations are made via email than any other channel. So email everyone in your address book, even those you don’t expect to give. You’ll be surprised who donates to your ride. Your fundraising dashboard makes this effort easy with an address book import, templated emails to help you get started and tracking tools to see who you’ve emailed, who’s donated and who may need a friendly reminder.

Invest in Your Adventure

Make a self-donation to show how invested you are in the fight against cancer and then ask others to match it. This is a great way to get the ball rolling towards your fundraising goal.

Personalize Your Fundraising Dashboard

When you register for the Empire State Ride, you’re automatically given an online fundraising dashboard and personal fundraising webpage. Through your dashboard you can update your webpage with a photo or video and share your story. You can also send emails and make social media posts.

Get Social

More and more donors are giving through social media and Facebook is still the king. Ninety percent of all social media donations come from Facebook but if you use multiple social media platforms make sure to post there too. Use your fundraising dashboard to link you social media account(s) to make posting easy.

Excelsior Riders

Excelsior is a Latin adjective meaning “higher” or “loftier” or “ever upward.” It’s also the motto of New York State. Riders who set a goal of $10,000, strive ever upward and reach their goal will be rewarded with Excelsior status.

By signing up for the Empire State Ride, you’ve already proven that you’re not afraid of a challenge. A cycling adventure across New York State requires passion and commitment – and you can channel that into your fundraising, too. Don’t just stop at your minimum fundraising commitment when you can be part of the exclusive Excelsior Riders and receive special perks that reward you for your commitment to helping us in the fight against cancer.

Cash & Check Donations

While making a donation online is the quickest way for donations to be credited towards your fundraising goal we realize that not all of your donors will want to make an online donation. If you receive cash or check donations we can credit those to your fundraising goal as well.

Check donations can be made out to the “Empire State Ride” and please make sure that your donor includes your name in the memo line so we know to credit your fundraising efforts. Checks can be mailed to:

Please do not send cash in the mail. If you live in the Buffalo, NY area you can turn in cash or check donations at the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation main office located at 901 Washington Street (on the corner of Washington and Carlton Streets) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are out of town or can’t stop by our offices, please deposit the cash and send in a check or money order. Just make sure you include your donor’s name and contact information if they would like credit for their donation. You can use this pledge sheet to collect the information we would need to send a donation acknowledgement letter.

Please allow 10 business days after receipt for mailed donations to be processed and posted to your fundraising page. Donations made online will be processed and posted immediately. Please note: mailed donations must be received by the Empire State Ride office at least 10 days prior to your ride to be included with your ride day total. After that, it’s best to hang on to them and turn them in at ride check-in.

Matching Gifts

Matching gifts are a great way to double your donation. Many employers offer programs that match employee’s charitable donations dollar for dollar so make sure to find out if your company has a matching gift program and ask your donors to check as well.

If you don’t find your employer’s name using the search function, contact your HR department to see if your company offers a matching gifts program.

If your company does participate, request a matching gift form, fill it out and mail it to:

Your matching contribution will be credited towards your fundraising goal once it has been received. Matching gifts can sometimes take three to four months to be processed by your employer.
