Meet Rick from Maryland

“We all have a single goal of raising money to beat cancer.”

— Rick, cancer thriver and ESR road warrior

Rick's story

Rick’s history with Empire State Ride dates back to 2016 when he joined the road crew as a luggage truck driver supporting the fearless ESR riders. He planned to return the following year to work the weeklong event again — until he received news that changed everything: He had prostate cancer.

His diagnosis changed Rick’s mindset. Newly determined, he set his sights on beating prostate cancer and returning to ESR as a rider. He buckled down, went through treatment and surgery and crossed the finish line in 2018 as a first-time road warrior. He’s been involved with ESR in some capacity ever since. Most recently, Rick rode in 2023 despite being diagnosed with lymphoma just months earlier.

He rides for others going through their own cancer journeys.

Meet Linda from Western New York

“Empire State Ride is, by far, the best event I’ve ever been honored and blessed to be part of. Couldn’t be a better cause.”

— Linda, 2023 ESR road warrior

Linda's story
Linda has long participated in Ride for Roswell, raising what she could for cancer research. In light of her nephew’s struggle with cancer and the struggles of countless others in her life, Linda decided she wanted to step up and make an even bigger impact in the fight to end cancer. So, she committed to Empire State Ride.

Meet Anand from New Jersey

“It’s the triumph of the human spirit. That’s what Empire State Ride is all about.”

— Anand, 2023 ESR road warrior

Anand's story
When Anand heard about an awesome bike ride that supports cancer research and funds ideas that are saving lives, he signed up right away. For him, the fight to end cancer is highly personal. He has lost several loved ones to cancer throughout his life, and Empire State Ride allowed him to play a role in funding new ideas that change the way we treat cancer, bringing us closer to a cure.
