You’ll get additional route options, a huge anniversary celebration and special 10-year programming that highlights the impact we’re making on cancer research. But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what our road warriors have to say about the adventure.
“I’m full of joy every day. I’m meeting new people, and they’re so friendly and welcoming. I hope they allow me to come back again next year, because I will be here.”
Meet Maritza, a 2023 Empire State Ride road warrior from Puerto Rico. When Maritza read about Empire State Ride for the first time in Adventure Cyclist Magazine, she knew she had to tackle the challenge for herself and for a close friend with cancer. Two days into #ESR23, Maritza knew she’d do the adventure again in 2024.
“It’s a great adventure, full of community. If you want to meet new people, if you want to talk to people, if you want to challenge yourself physically and mentally or understand the lives of other people who are doing this ride, then this is for you. It’s really a unique experience.”
Lucas always dreamed about riding the trail across New York State. When his roommate signed up for Empire State Ride, Lucas saw an opportunity to honor his mother’s battle with thyroid cancer while bringing his dream to fruition. Toward the end of his weeklong adventure, Lucas realized ESR was more rewarding than he had ever imagined, connecting him with people from around the globe while proving his own physical and mental resilience.
“If you want to learn what life is about, do this ride.”
Six years ago, Verny started doing Empire State Ride in honor of his friend who was diagnosed with cancer. An avid cyclist his whole life, Verny found his place out on the road at Empire State Ride and has since been an integral part of the ESR community. He continues to tackle the journey at age 61.
Road warriors tackle 500+ miles across New York State over seven days as part of a commitment to ending cancer and saving lives. This year, we’re commemorating a decade of dedication and impact leading up to the most unforgettable year yet.
